This Chocolate Cake is a reminder that some of the best childhood memories don't come from celebrations: they come from ordinary afternoons.
In countless Brazilian homes, especially at Grandma's house, there was often a simple chocolate cake waiting on the table. No filling, no frosting, no special occasion required. Just a homemade cake baked to welcome family, accompany a cup of coffee, and make sure every grandchild left happy.
After all, what child doesn't love chocolate?
Our version stays true to that tradition. A tender chocolate cake with a delicate flavour and a lightly crisp crust that forms naturally during baking. Made with cocoa and semi-sweet chocolate, it isn't overly sweet: a reflection of the coffee traditions of Minas Gerais, where cake is often enjoyed alongside a sweetened cup of coffee. Rather than competing with the coffee, the cake complements it.
There is nothing complicated about this cake, and that's exactly why it has endured for generations. It's a reminder that sometimes the most beloved recipes are the ones made with everyday ingredients, shared around the kitchen table, and remembered long after the last slice is gone.

Every cake is lovingly handmade in a licensed commercial kitchen inspected by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. Every batch is prepared by a certified Food Handler following approved food safety practices. Some products contain tree nuts and other allergens. Although we carefully clean and sanitize all equipment between batches, our kitchen is not allergen-free.
